What is Second Life?
Second Life is an online virtual world developed by Linden Lab. It was launched on June 23, 2003. According to Linden Lab’s website:
Second Life is the leading 3D virtual world. It’s a space where you can be whoever you’d like, build and sell whatever you can imagine, and have fun with others from all over the globe while you explore unique virtual environments, listen to live music performances, play games, shop in the world’s largest user-generated virtual goods economy, and much more.
How can I be part of Second Life?
1. Visit the official webpage. When you sign up, you need to choose a username. You will be known by that name inworld. There are many avatars you can choose from: vampires, people, animals, robots, vehicles.
2. When you log in for the first time, your avatar will appear in a Welcome Island. There is a tutorial which helps you become familiarized with Second Life.
3. Destination Guide: Newcomer Friendly Spots. There are many places you can visit inworld. More tutorials and guides can be found. Check them out!
4. Second Life Help Portal. A lot of useful information to look at.
